What is Burlington Telecom?
BT is a municipal Internet Service Provider, delivering internet service over fiber optic. It is comparatively faster (in terms of max available speed), and cheaper, than other ISPs serving the area.
Why do we want Burlington Telecom in Shelburne?
Here in Shelburne, we basically have 2 (terrestrial) internet service providers to choose from:
Comcast/Xfinity, or Consolidated Communications. Many residents have expressed that they are tired of the shortcomings of these services, andtheir desire for a competitive offering in our area.
Why is Burlington Telecom better?
Faster
BT offers 1 Gbps as one of their standard offerings, and Fiber optic technology is superior to copper lines, so theoretical maximums are much higher.
Cheaper
Rates are typically 20-30% lower than Comcast for similar offerings
Friendlier
Burlington Telecom is a small company operating right here in Chittenden County. The engineers, technicians, specialists who make up the company live right around here, and probably shop at the same grocery store you do.
What’s involved in getting BT to deliver service to my house?
BT is not currently available in Shelburne, BUT have no fear… they are expanding! Many of our telephone poles already have fiber optic cable run, and still other areas can be deployed in a matter of months, not years. We need to convince BT to make our area a priority. We do this by demonstrating that there is a ready-made, viable business case to activate this area with residents who are ready to Sign Up! (Before 12/1/22).
